Remembrance food

A food lover like me could remember people from what food that they relate the person in remembrance to.

A can of Pepsi reminds me of my long-time friend Nasrul, whom I shared a drink everyday in Primary 6. Both of us would spend 50 cents for it.

Sprite reminds me of Hadini, Suria's cousin and former classmate. That's his favourite drink.

A tuna sandwich would remind me of Ariffin in a psychological-impact kind of way. In my mental-wreck year of Upper Six I though we never met eye-to-eye and ranted about it on those usual talk sessions I have when I go emo, until he reminded me about one lunchtime when, realising I had overbought my lunch, gave a spare sandwich to a starving Ariffin sitting across me. He was forever grateful while I simply never gave second thoughts on it. This event was also an example of how people like me would forget all the good deeds we do and mull over one bad mishap.

Lindt chocolate reminds me of my online ex. She loves the particular brand, so my heart has a sharp twang whenever I eat it - obviously there's feelings left behind. Fortunately enough, I've came to my senses that stuff like it never work, and I've not been in contact with her in over a year, because she'd disappeared from the 'net. Be safe, wherever you are, you.

Moving on to family, which is the focus of this entry.

Grenadine (air merah) reminds me of my eldest aunt on my mom's side, the Longs, because they served the best grenadine juice whenever I visit. Homemade fried potato chips soaked in chili is for the youngest aunt, who specialises in it. Why can't anyone else make em :/

But today, miraculously, I ate both the remembrance food of two of my recently-deceased grandparents by chance. My grandfather died two years ago while my grandmother passed away the year after.

This afternoon there was nothing to eat. I nearly went out to buy some lekor before realising what day it is. Then I peered into the food cabinet and found a few packets of Maggi Asam Laksa.

Back when I was in Primary 3, my grandfather (mom's side) invited me to come eat a different type of soup noodle. I loved it, although it was a bit spicy. It turned out to be asam laksa which I would eat sparingly but still enjoyed everytime.

Then later at night my mom came home from dikir bringing something I haven't seen in a long time - some ardam. Ardam is a traditional Bruneian kuih which to me, if you haven't eaten it yet, you're missing something in your Bruneian life.

Though it wasn't always specifically her ardams, my grandmother of my dad's side was a treasure of traditional Bruneian cooking. There are still some old cooking utensils set aside in the kitchen at Katimahar where she had lived. She brought with her many traditional recipes to the grave, some could even be already extinct now.

Their death anniversaries are approaching, incidentally around the same time of year, around March. Before then, let's pray for the safety of their souls in the afterlife.

Al-Fatihah.

They taught me one thing (Maths courses in particular):-

Do your homework, you'll pass, even though your exam sucked
Don't do it, and you'll definitely fail, even though your exam went really good

Well, it's pretty useless now since I've finished all my Maths courses.

They went as I expected (probably better with those Maths courses). So I won't be treating anyone like last time. Or maybe I should...

Lemme get this straight

If you don't update, I don't update. SO LET'S HAVE A SILENT BLOGGING CIRCLE YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

*cough*

No, really. People like Suria, 'Daus and Zair are updating so I need to stir the rest up. I haven't touched this blog because of the PS3, football, admining a site etc.. I've got a week to go until UBD starts, sigh.

I'll do the meme later. I'm so hungry. I think I've lost 4-5kg now, just a week into the annual diet. Arg, I got a headache.
