*whack*

So... where the hell did the budaya of hitting the person next to you when you spot a specific brand of car on the road? My limbs hurt because my bro hits me whenever he sees a green car and my sis when she spots and old-type Vios. =___= I can only do that if I spot a pink car. And lo and behold, for every 50 cars in Brunei there's only one.

Gemilang 60

Okay so my bro plus a couple of my cousins are participating in this Saturday's annual Padang celebration when the Sultan comes here and watches kids dance. I'm lucky I've never been doing it all my life... the dances my bro and the rest must do... ugh.

For MKJB (my bro's school) they'll be dancing to a recording of the opening ceremony of last month's World Cup, I was like "where have I listened to this before..." until I suddenly realised after they played it a second time.

And when every school enters the field, the theme for this year's celebration plays. It goes

Gemilang, terus gemilang
Gemilang, tetap gemilang
Gemilang Belait gemilang
Gemilang Enam Puluh

and add a few male choir singers who-sound-like-they're-doing-it-the-first-time and some cheesy and generic patriotic tune. While they enter or leave the field, they clap in unison. I was going like wtf... when I first saw it.

But eh, cheesiness aside, I don't think I'll be attending anything else that's on Saturday since I'll have to be at the Padang.

Language of thought

Have you ever been asked to translate something from Malay to English in particular, and yet take a long time to answer because you feel you know what it is and it's natural for you if you ever come across it but can't seem to recollect until you rack your brain hard? Especially tough words.

I think it's all because of the language your brain uses. Especially when you talk in that language, your brain thinks correspndingly, whether it's a narration to describe a memory or teaching someone a thing or two. You can say "what about interpreters", but since it's their profession they have been trained to think bilingually.

There's a huge example in my part: all my life I learned Japanese in English and I've known for a long time how hard for me to mix Japanese with Malay and even mix them in speech, much less translate. There is this golden question after the inevitable 'apa "i luv u" dlm ckp Jap' that is as annoying as that one, if not more because there is nothing equivalent. There is no "I miss you" in Japanese, and the closest you have is 望む or 憧れる which is more like "want" than "miss", really.

My mom isn't convinced with my Japanese, simply because she never heard me talk using it. Well, above the fact that I can't use it with anyone else at home, I am a bit skeptical with her and others about it because I know people like my mom will ridicule the language and that is very much a pet peeve of mine.

Well I need to gain experience. Maybe someday I'll have a speaking partner. Who knows. Oh Saiful...

I am so cursing Konami right now -_-

Sure, you release Winning Eleven 10 before the World Cup, that's understandable, but you have left us avid players with doing our own player transfers in the summer and at this point of time in the season there are liek, 40-50 moves for one day?
